Our editors have researched and tried the best sustainable baby products with our own families. These are our picks for baby wraps and carriers that are organic, ergonomic, and built to last.

As I write this, I’m wearing my 1-month-old baby girl. She’s a cuddler and needs to be on me most of the time, especially to fall asleep. After a baby is born, transitioning from the womb to the world is a trying experience. This is where baby wraps and carriers come in. 🐣

Baby-wearing brings your baby back into your embrace and eases them into their new environment. In a wrap or a carrier, your baby will hear your heartbeat and feel soothed by your gentle motion, just like in the womb. It’s also helpful for the parent to learn and respond to your new baby’s cues. You’ll notice their pecking motion when it’s time to feed or the sounds they make when it’s time for a diaper change. Also, for those breastfeeding, this closeness boosts oxytocin, the so-called love hormone, and can increase milk supply.

For thousands of years, baby-wearing has been an important part of raising a child. Today, baby-wearing options are more functional, stylish, and ergonomic for both wearer and baby. Also, baby-wearing is great for those with multiple kids so you can take care of the older children while the baby sleeps on the go.

So, finding the right baby wrap is key. It may take trying out a few before you find the one that is suitable for you, your lifestyle, and your baby. Below, you can see our suggestions based on the most important factors for a new parent. While you’re shopping, you might also consider asking others in your community to borrow their carriers to try out.

Why choose an organic baby carrier or wrap?

When it comes to what you put on your baby’s skin, it’s important to be mindful. This includes choosing fabrics free from harmful chemicals and synthetics. Infant skin is sensitive and you want to protect your little one from anything that might irritate it. Organic cotton and other natural fibers also help to regulate babies’ body temperatures — and it’s vital to reduce the risk of overheating, especially when sharing body heat! Baby carriers made from organic, natural fabrics will be breathable, gentle on the skin, and better for the environment, too. Organic farming uses fewer synthetic chemicals, reduces pollution, and supports biodiversity. Not to mention, an organic carrier will break down if it ever ends up in a landfill — though we doubt that will happen with the well-made options below.

Our criteria:

Many of our editors are also mothers — and we’ve spent years researching, testing, and corresponding with the top sustainable, eco-friendly, and nontoxic brands for babies and kids. For this guide, we compiled baby carrier wraps that are safe, ergonomic, and durable. We regularly update this list with emerging picks when they meet the below criteria.

  • ORGANIC/NONTOXIC | The brands on this list use organic cotton or other natural fibers grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). All use natural, nontoxic dyes.
  • ERGONOMIC | All of the options on this list are engineered for both your comfort and your little one’s. We’ve included a number of styles so you can choose which suits your family best.
  • DURABILITY | Sustainable baby products are naturally more durable and well-made — so you can expect these products to last and even become hand-me-downs for the next generation.

I personally love to wear my Solly at home when I don’t have anywhere to run off to!

Customer Review | “So I wasn’t sure how I felt about a wrap… it intimidated me trying to figure it out but once I did, total GAME CHANGER. Seriously, watch the tutorials and stick with it!! This is hands down my most used baby item. I use it daily. It’s also what I reach for every time my baby is fussy — it immediately calms her down and then I get to be hands free on my walks or doing things around the house which is so amazing. I want this wrap in every color!! I absolutely love this thing and couldn’t live without it!! My baby is almost 3 months old and we still use it all the time. She is on the smaller side but I see us using it for months to come.” – Ellen G (Read more reviews.)

We bought this before my daughter was born and she started contact napping in it for my partner, and often myself, by around a month old. 18 months later and she still spends about 2 hours a day, minimum, in the exact same carrier. Whether she needs comfort or a cuddle or relief on a walk or to nurse, this carrier allows us so much connection… and comfort. It has now been on two international trips, the latest on which we FORGOT the stroller, and still managed to walk 10+ miles a day with our 25 lb toddler.
